Dr. Patterson is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is a native of Georgia, raised in Valdosta, and first came to Athens to attend the University of Georgia. Four years later he graduated magna cum laude with a degree in microbiology from the Honors Program at UGA. He earned his Doctorate of Medicine at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, GA. After medical school, Dr. Patterson remained at the Medical College of Georgia where he completed his internship in Internal Medicine and his residency in Ophthalmology. Dr. Patterson has been trained in the latest techniques in cataract and glaucoma surgery, as well as surgery of the eyelids and treatment of diabetes and macular degeneration. During college he met his wife Lauren. Now they have three small children and love calling Athens their home. Outside of his clinic and operating time, Dr. Patterson works with Medical Campus Outreach and is involved at Redeemer Presbyterian Church. He is a volunteer physician at Mercy Health Center in Athens, GA. Dr. Patterson considers it a true privilege to work in eye care and especially enjoys the long-term patient-physician relationships ophthalmology affords.
